About the temple :
The village Sanapiratti situated on the banks of the river Amaravathi, a kilometer from the national highway between Karur and Trichy and about 5 or 6 Kms from Karur. This village came into existence during the rule of Rani Mangammal in whose control Karur and its surroundings were administered. The Revenue officer by name Sri. Chennappa Reddy who bequeathed these areas under his control formed this village and assigned lands to Vedic pundits who migrated from as far as Virudachalam.
With their spiritual power and vedic knowledge specially in Sama veda, they managed to bring some stability to this area in forming the village despite frequent floods in river Amaravathi. They established a temple of Arulmigu Vriddambika Samedha Vriddachaleswarar situated at the east end of the Agraharam.
Since the first inhabitants of the village came from places near Virudachalam, they brought sacred sand from there and installed Siva temple in the name of Arulmigu Vriddachaleswarer. The first family who colonized this place was lead by one Jatavallabar. The title "Jatavallabar" annexed to one who in an expert in Vedic chanting in a manner like spinning the hair of ladies as inter twining model. Those people are versatile in Sama veda and performed many yagnas. They were always at the service of Lord Shiva by chanting Sama Veda in the temple.
History of the Sri. Kothanda Rama temple:
Sri. Chennappa Reddy in his dream, Lord Ram conveyed that while coming in search of Sita Pirattiyar and when proceeding towards Lanka, has spent a night here on the banks of Amaravathi. Hence instructed him to build a temple at this place. This Kothanda Ramasamy temple is situated at west end of the Agraharam. Many Alwars have visited this temple in those days and Vykanasa Agama was followed for daily pujas. There were many lands which was donated for this temple, but at the moment no income derived from those lands. Renovation was last done in 1951.
It is also significant that his Holiness Sri Sachidananda Sivabinava Narasimha Bharathi Swamigal of Sringeri while on his TamilNadu visit came to this village to see his saha adhyayi Sri. Venkatrama subba Dikshadar, being one of the two vidyarthis from Tamil Nadu who studied along with his holiness. He also composed a sloka in praise of this village. In such a sacred place on the banks of river Amaravathy this temple is located.
Since 2001, we are collecting addresses of natives of the village and appealing to them for joining us in our endeavour to renovate this temple. For this purpose we formed an association in the name of "Narasimha Samudram Narpani Mandram" and enrolling members and under its auspices appeal letters were sent out to mobilize funds for renovation of this temples.
Plans and estimates were made out and a minimum of Rs.15 lakhs is required for renovation work including expenses towards Kumbabishekam. We appeal to the well meaning philanthropists to come forward and join us in this noble task.
