Greetings from DESAMANIKKAM Trust!
Desamanikkam Village is situated near Melaseval in Ambsamudram Taluk of Tirunelveli District. It has a Sri Srinivasa Perumal (Sri Venkatachalapathy Perumal) temple about 600 years old from oral records. The village finds mention in historical records as far back as 13th Century AD. Thayar is Alamelu Mangai and there is only one Santum Sanctorum with a small Madapalli.
The Temple witnessed Samprokshanam during January 1956 and the recent collapse of the compound walls and dilapitated structure has prompted efforts to undertake renovation after 60 years. Balalayam was performed on 9 March 2015 and Samprokshanam is scheduled for 20 Jan 2016.
A Trust named "DESAMANIKKAM TRUST" has been formed last year by (Late) Sri R Desikan and other families hailing from the village.
For a temple which has not witnessed any renovation activity for nearly 60 years, the cost of repairing the damage caused to its structure by way of decay all these years itself amounts to approx Rs 55-60 lakhs. We have envisaged the following works like providing pucca inner compound wall, outer fencing, renovation of Vimanam/Moolavar gopuram, laying new flooring, providing Sorga Vassal, installing Dwarabalakas, etc.
