Generally, the Perumal is found with the Sudharsana Chakram on His right Hand and Conch (Sanghu) on His Left Hand. But, in Thirukkovilur Temple, they are found inter-changed. Thirukkovilur is one among the 108 Divya desams and it is found near Vilupuram.
The First 3 Alwars namely : Poigai, Bhutham and Peiyalwar met here and the first verses (paasurams of 4000) of Naalayira Divya Prabhandham were composed here.
This is one among the Pancha Krishnaaranya Kshetrams, the others being Thiru Kannangudi, Thiru Kannamangai, Thiru Kannapuram and Kapisthalam.
